Officials confirmed Wednesday that the largest oil spill in U.P. history has leaked about 20,000 gallons of gas, a significant drop from earlier estimates.
S Department of Energy said Wednesday that it has found that more than half of the gas has been released in parts of the state of Texas and Louisiana.
The agency said that it will continue to monitor the gas leak and the state for any further release.
It said that the agency is working to find out how the gas was transported to its disposal facility in Louisiana.
It also said that its oil spill response team will conduct additional research and analysis to determine what, if any, additional spill response actions are needed.
In addition, a large portion of the oil has been returned to the surface, which is the first step in treating the spill.
